Thanks, yeah that's one of my trade mark effects. I usually paint a subject in black and white if it's from an old photo as I'm no good at colourising them. And the dramatic background just adds to the contrast.
Werner Voss was not a Nazi, he was a WWI fighter pilot who died in the war. The Nazi party did not come into existence until the 1920s. As for the swastika, it was commonly used before the Nazi party took it. It was painted on his aeroplane as a lucky comet tail. That is why it is in the background of my painting with the other symbols and colours of his plane.
